What Mango Butter Actually Is

Seed. Kernel. Butter.

The fruit is eaten. The hard seed at its centre is opened. Inside sits a pale kernel — the small, almond-like part from which mango butter is pressed.

At room temperature, mango butter is soft-solid and creamy. Warm it between the hands and it begins to melt. On skin, that change in texture is part of its appeal: richness at first touch, then a lighter finish than the word butter suggests.

Unfragranced mango butter does not smell like ripe mango flesh. Its scent is quiet — more seed and nut than fruit. In Belantara, the fragrance comes from the composition built around it.

How Mango Butter Is Made

The process begins with the kernel inside the mango seed. After the fruit is eaten or processed, the seed is cleaned and opened, the pale kernel inside is separated, and its fat is extracted and prepared for formulation.

The result is a pale, creamy butter with a quiet natural scent and an emollient texture that softens with warmth.
